FAÇADE FESTIVAL

Script writing for a visual piece in a public art festival

creative work

Façade Festival is a week-long, public art project in Vancouver. Short films created by artists are projected onto the Georgia Street façade of the Vancouver Art Gallery.

DUET

The short film Duet was created for Façade Festival 2019. Drew Young, a Vancouver-based artist, and I storyboarded and co-wrote the script, then produced the film together.

Duet takes the viewer on an adventure in the lives of two seemingly lonely hearts through and around both iconic and secretive settings in Vancouver. The story can be interpreted literally and linearly, however, as the piece evolves, the implications it has acting as a metaphor between the two main characters becomes more and more obvious.

The intentional skewing of chronological events in Duet forces the viewer to rethink what they saw, to take a closer look, and to observe the same piece of art with a different lens. Because the structure of the festival allowed the film to be watched multiple times in one evening, we wanted to create something that can be watched with new perspectives from the previous viewing. There is no true end or beginning to Duet; when played on a loop, a viewer could enter the film at any given time.

Since Duet was created to be shown on Vancouver's Art Gallery, the final film was not formatted for online use.
